Artur Beterbiev vs Isidro Ranoni Prieto
BY KID HERSH
From Lac Leamy Casino in Gatineau, Quebec, came Artur Beterbiev's 11th fight against Isidro Ranoni Prieto (26-1-3, 22KO's). Beterbiev has ten wins all by knockout and is a big player in the division, being a Russian knockout puncher that beat Sergey Kovalev in the amateurs. He has looked fantastic but has not had as many fights as we would like due to needing shoulder surgery and it being a slow recovery, as well as other injuries before that one. It is understandable that the guy has these injuries though because he a physical monster - one of the biggest I have ever seen for the light heavyweight division - and he trains like a fiend which of course means injuries as he turns past 30 years old.
For the fight itself - well, we did not get to see much as Beterbiev moved from 30 professional rounds boxed to 31. He dropped an aggressive Prieto with a right hand to the chin and then blasted him to the canvas again where the fight was stopped when he was wobbling around trying to get up but clearly not recovering quick enough. Another statement win here and I expect Beterbiev to be more and more talked about as time goes on here. He matches up well with pretty much anyone in the division with the only real question being his conditioning and judging by his looks I am sure it's top notch.
