Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) on ESPN2 from Poliforum Benito Juarez in Cancun, Mexico featured a night of prospects and contenders on a Thursday night.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. (7-0, 7KO's) vs Evandro Cavalheiro (13-3, 10KO's).  This one did not last long at all as Ortiz threw a right hand in the opening seconds of the round that appeared to land on top of the head as Cavalheiro bent forward.  The punch wobbled his legs and he eventually went to the canvas as he saw Ortiz coming at him for more.  There was then a long period of confusion where it was unsure if Ortiz was going to get DQ'ed or if it was indeed a TKO.  It ended up being ruled correctly; a TKO.  Unfortunately it seemed like the referee messed this one up because Cavalheiro could have been able to continue I believe and on the other hand Ortiz threw a legal punch, so the break in action for minutes while the referee took a timeout put the fight in a weird predicament.  In any case; the ruling was correct in the end and Ortiz continues his knockout streak.  It will be great to see him step up and get some rounds in, every time I have seen him now it is super fast fights.

Next up was Alexis Rocha (9-0, 6KO's) vs Pascual Salgado (12-7, 8KO's).  This fight also would not last long as Rocha landed a beautiful left to the body of Salgado a little over midway through the round.  The shot hurt Salgado, backing him up, and as soon as Rocha unleashed a combination Salgado went ot the canvas and stayed there for the full ten count.  Quick work but this is the second time I have seen Rocha do very good body work and get the knockout from it.

Main event time featuring Jose Martinez (19-0-1, 12KO's) vs Jesus Martinez (23-2, 11KO's).  In the first round Jose was blasting away at Jesus, who was on unsteady legs for a good half of the round from the powerful blows.  In the second round Jesus did not get blasted as bad as the first but he was still very easy to hit and only having fleeting moments with his punches, which were having no effect on Jose.  In the third round Jesus went to the canvas at the end of the round from a body shot and then very early in the fourth round he went down from another body shot that we missed on television because it was still on a commercial!
