Manny Pacquiao to fight Amir Khan April 23rd
BY KID HERSH
Well, the Manny Pacquiao vs Jeff Horn fight is off. I know, I know - tears are being shed that we will not get a chance to see the Australian for the first time in a showdown against one of the all time greats in boxing.
Ok sarcasm aside this is a great thing and a decent fight. Yes I would rather see Pacquiao fight someone like Terence Crawford but an Amir Khan showdown isn't all bad for boxing. At least this fight will tell us something about both men. Namely, is Amir past his best years or does he still have a lot to offer? Amir has yet to impress us with a real signature win, which is really odd considering the huge draw that he has become. His best win is likely against Marcos Maidana which is over six years ago now.
In a perfect world we would be getting Pacquiao squaring off against Crawford and Khan squaring off against Kell Brook, but with Brook busy against Errol Spence Jr. this fight isn't all that bad. You gotta admit - it has a bit of a pick 'em factor that is intriguing. In my mind I can picture Khan working the outside and scoring while Pacquiao tries to come in and land a fight ending punch. I think Pacquiao will land it but when is the question because I could also see it coming down to the wire. Pacquiao's work rate is about half of what it once was.
