From the Ota City General Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan, World Boxing Association (WBA) World Bantamweight Champion Jamie McDonnell (29-2-1, 13KO’s) travelled overseas to defend his title against Naoya Inoue (15-0, 13KO’s) in "The Monsters" first fight at the bantamweight limit. The bout will be aired on ESPN+, the new streaming service by the sports giant that costs $5 per month and gives you bouts not aired on their regular network.
First up was Ken Shiro (12-0, 6KO's) vs Ganigan Lopez (34-, 19KO's). This bout is a rematch from 2017. Thd first round was very cautious between both men as they look to establish the jab. Then suddenly the fight was over in the second round when Shiro delivered a right hand to the liver that Lopez down and out for the count.
For the main event, the fight was even shorter than the pre-main event. In the very first round, Inoue came out throwing to McDonnell's body, scoring a knockdown midway through the round from a left to the body. McDonnell rose off the canvas but Inoue trapped him on the ropes, flurrying with heavy punches, until the fight was waved off by the referee with McDonnell going to the canvas for a second time.
